Ravenel 2015 Autumn Auction Hong Kong Auction Results: total auction turnover HKD$37,048,000/USD$4,780,387, Sold by lot: 76.49%, sold by value 60.00%

Ravenel Hong Kong 2015 Autumn Modern and Contemporary art auction has another successful sale at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong on the 29 November 2015. The groundbreaking pieces to receive the most attention from bidders were the classic of Zao Wou-ki’s 7.12.69 which sold at HKD$12,400,000/USD$1,600,000 and topped the results of the season, followed by Wu Guanzhong’s “Lion Grove garden” selling at HKD$5,280,000/USD$681,290 and Anselm Kiefer’s “Ave Maria, Mater Castissima” which sold HKD$2,880,000/USD$371,613. Other magnificent works from the Western category performed impressively with Victor Vasarely’s “Tenger”, eventually sold for HKD$1,110,000/USD$143,226.

 

Among the many extraordinary artworks offered this season include a spectacular work by Chu Teh-chun entitled “Hiver III”, sold for HKD$1,440,000/USD$185,806. Prospects for Ding Yi’s “Appearance of Crosses 2002-1” and Xu Bing’s “Reading Landscapes Series were good leading up to the auction, with the former eventually sold for HKD$1,200,000/USD$154,839 and the latter for HKD$1,560,000/USD$201,290 respectively. Richard Lin’s “23-November-1959” generated a heated round of bidding competition amongst collectors and connoisseurs, it was eventually sold for over the pre-auction estimates at HKD$432,000/USD$55,742 after an extensive round of bids.

 

A series of superb ink works exhibited this season garnered much attention, Yu Cheng-yao’s “Mountain Peaks in the Clouds” was sold for HKD$504,000/USD$65,032. The works of Shiy De-jinn from the Collection of Mr. Lu Sheng-Hua, the former Director of the Shiy De-jinn Foundation, The work “Chihsing Mountain, Tamsui” fetched HKD$576,000/USD$74,323 while “Northeast Coast of Taiwan” performed equally well and was sold for HKD$528,000/USD$68,129 respectively.

 

Several spectacular works received many inquires before the auction, including Yayoi Kusama’s “Bird”, selling at HKD$1,680,000/USD$216,774 and Yoshitomo Nara’s “Sleepless Night Sitting”, selling at HKD$360,000/USD$46,452. Huang Po-ren’s record breaking “The Dog’s Notes – Home” was eventually sold for HKD$228,000/USD$29,419 after a heated series of bids.
