Ravenel Spring 2016 Hong Kong Literati: Quiet Affection Auction Results

Revenel Spring Auction 2016 Hong Kong – Literati: Quiet Affection took place on MAY 29 at 2:00pm at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Ball Room. The combination of antique and contemporary art inherited the spirit from the previous Literati auction, a total of xx out of 77 art pieces found its new owner. 

 

The highlight of this auction, which was featured on the cover page of catalogue, A Gilt Bronze Figure of Manjusshri, was won at HKD 7,800,000, buyer’s premium inclusive. This bodhisattva stands in a graceful posture, abbanga, on a circular lotus pedestal, holding the stem of a flower in his left hand. Another highlight is a Tibetan gilt bronze figure of the second dalai lama seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base with beaded rims, his right hand raised in vitarkamudra and his left holding a manuscript in his lap. It finally won as HKD660,000.  

Among 16 pieces of ceramic in our sale, the white glazed cup of Sui Dynasty was sold for HKD108,000, and white glazed bowl of Late Tang or Early Five Dynasty was sold for HKD 50,400. In terms of celadon, Song Dynasty Longquan douli-shaped celadon bowl fetched HKD144,000. Apart from that, Yaozhou ware bowl with imprinted chrysanthemum pattern selling at HKD 48,000. This reflects the unbeatable charm of ceramic from Song Dynasty.

 

In terms of ink and color on paper, Sanyu’s Nude was particularly intense and sold after 10 biddings as HKD192,000. Jiang Zhaoshen’s Landscape generated a heating round of bidding competition between floor buyers and phone bidders, and was finally sold after 8 biddings as HKD156,000. New ink painting attracted collectors’ attentions, Han Fei Bird on Rock was sold on HKD 43,200, Peng Wei Taihu Rock was sold on HKD 360,000. The well-known artist Andy Warhol’s painting A Christmas Thing also performed well and fetched HKD 192,000.

 

Vivi He, Head of Business Development of Hong Kong, quoted “The very beginning mind itself is the most accomplished mind of true enlightenment”.  With the inherited spirit from the last Literati auction, we demonstrated a mature attitude towards antique and contemporary art more vividly and wish this auction met the expectations and satisfies her participants.
