Annapia ANTONINI

Swiss 1942

Born in Lugano, Switzerland in 1942, Annapia Antonini is a painter and etcher. She moved to Paris in 1962 to study drawing and painting at the Académie Julian and learn to etch at Friedlaender's atelier. After her first exhibition held in Paris around 1965, she has participated in major shows in Switzerland, France, Germany, England, the USA and Japan. Antonini focuses on still life, trying to reveal the poetry existing among everyday objects and depict the beauty of simple things with her unique artistic language. Her works unveil the less tangible qualities of ordinary objects and invite the spectator to ponder how they relate to him/her. Antonini’s works are included in public collections including Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; Biblioteca Cantonale, Lugano; Bibliothèque nationale, Paris; Bibliothèque nationale Suisse, Bern; Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; Fonds National d'Art Contemporain, Paris; International Museum of Art, San Francisco; Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC.
