TSAI Chih-hsien

Taiwanese 1958

Mr. Tsai, born in Pu-Tai, Chiayi in 1958, acquired a Ph. D. in math from the University of Arizona, USA. Since 1991, Tsai has held several exhibitions. His works can be divided into two types: "Form" made by the remnants of steel and utensils, and "Statuary" made by winding and welding linear steel of different thickness and width. He took advantage of the original nature of materials or transformed it to expand visual impacts via deformation, compression, and winding. In particular, some of his works feature calligraphy-like lines that move naturally like music and dance. Their vivid artistic conceptions fully express orient-specific artistic styles.
