LI Chen

Taiwanese 1963

Born in 1963 in Yunlin, Taiwan, Li Chen now has studios in both Taichung and Shanghai. Blending Buddhist and Taoist traditional influences with contemporary interpretations, Li’s serene sculptural aesthetic serves as an ongoing dialogue between Eastern and Western artistic inspirations. Li was awarded the Golden Prize at the National Sculpture competition in Taichung, Taiwan in 1994, and commissioned to design two separate Buddhist Halls, the first for Buddha’s Light International in 1995, and the second for Sun-Moon Light Semi-Conductor Company in 1996/1997. Li is one of only two Chinese artists listed in the top 15 world sculptures alongside artists such as AnishKapoor, Jeff Koons, and Antony Gormley.
