XIA Hang

Xia Hang was born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province in 1978. He graduated with a BFA from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 2002, and went on to obtain an MFA from the Sculpture Department of the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2009; he currently lives in Beijing. Xia Hang has been a pioneer in the adoption of the “sculpture of play” as a form of artistic creation. In 2008, works by Xia Hang were included in the “Please Don’t Touch” exhibition at the New Age Gallery in Beijing; in that same year, Xia’s work was shown at the Singapore International Art Fair and in a joint exhibition at Edwin’s Gallery in Jakarta, Indonesia. In 2009, Xia Hang exhibited at the Art Basel – Miami Beach exhibition in the U.S.A., and at the Art Taipei show in Taiwan. In 2010, a solo exhibition of Xia’s work entitled “Play & Fun: Xia Hang’s Solo Sculpture Exhibition” was held at the Shanghai J Art Gallery in Shanghai.
