HSIEH Tong-liang

Born in Wufeng, Taichung. Hsieh graduated from National Taiwan University of Arts, Department of Sculpture in 1971. He is the first sculptor who honorably received the Qualification of Permanent Pre-screening Exemption in Taiwan Provincial Fine Art Exhibition. Also, he pioneered in the adoption of fiberglass in sculpture. He keeps transforming his works but always values human dignity and worth, emphasizes the relationships and interactions between people. Through different forms, his creative spirit remains the same. He incorporates “Tao of Tai Chi” into his recent works. Hsieh’s works can be seen in three major art museums in Taiwan.
Solo exhibitions: First Solo Exhibition in Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 1985, National Museum of History in 1989, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in 1989 and 1994, Shanghai Art Museum in 2012. Major group shows: 1983, “Invitational Exhibition”, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan; 1988, “The 3rd Asian International Art Exhibition”, Fukuoka Museum of Art, Japan; 2012, “A Great Era: Sculpture in Taiwan in the 1970s”, Juming Museum, Taiwan; “China Spirit: Art Along With the Olympics”, Water Cube, Beijing, and “Shanghai City Sculpture Invitational Exhibition”, Shanghai; 2013, “The Pioneers of Taiwanese Artists, 1941-1950”, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan.
