LIM Kac-keong

Taiwanese　1901 - 1992

Born in Pan-chiao, Taipei County, Lim was a descendant of Lim Ben Yuan family which was a respected family in Taiwan. As a senior painter of Taiwan, he was the only one who studied art in Europe aside from those who were educated in Japan. Due to his growing background, he was influenced by both eastern and western culture and art since early age. In 1921, he went to U.K. and entered the University of Cambridge to study law and economics. After graduate, he began to study art and received education of western fine arts. In 1930, Lim returned from Europe to the mainland and then moved to Hong Kong and Australia due to war. He came back and live in Taiwan until his retirement and spending his final years in the U.S. To appreciate the relationship between the nature and human life, Lim created works of realism or abstract with his unique style. Lim was not only a brilliant painter but also a hard to get educator. He was a professor in fine arts for 17 years and was greatly recognized.
In 1927, his artwork was selected to exhibit in the Royal Academy of Arts, England. In 1931, his painting “Nude” was selected in the 5th Art Exhibition of Taiwan, and in 1935, “Beauty under the Moon Light” in the 9th Art Exhibition of Taiwan. Lim was a member of the jury committee in the 1973 Sao Paulo Biennale. In 1991, Lim was awarded the “Achievement of Fine Arts” by the Council for Cultural Affairs, Executive Yuan.
