WANG Ye

Taiwanese　1934

Wang ye was born in 1934 in Anding villiage, Tainan county, Taiwan in 1934. His paintings exhibited plentiful imaginations since little, due to the loss of both parents at a young age he was able to ease the pain through painting. At the age of sixteen, he showed a great interest in the historical figures in shadow puppet show, which led him to learn the skills of decorating temples from the craftsman, only to find out the reluctance of them to pass on the skills. Within the two years of wandering to being arrested for selling snacks till learning to paint on glasses at his elder brother’s studio, and learned from several skilled craftsman, he acquired a solid foundation that will take further.

On July 1988, he first held his first solo exhibition in America Cultural Center, followed by the “Naïve Art Exhibition” the next year (Eslite Gallery), 1994,“Splendid Illusion World of the East” solo exhibition (Taipei city cultural center), 1997-8 world touring exhibition “Taiwanese Naïve Art”, 2007 “Nan Ying Naïve Art” joint exhibition (Tainan cultural center), 2012 “Native Taiwan-Wang Ye’s world of painting” touring exhibition (Hualian Venus art). The so-called “naive art” artists refers to artists that have little or informal training of art making techniques, yet possess uniqueness in their works.
