RUAN WENG MONG

Taiwanese 1952

Born at the Shih Family Ancestral House in Shilin in 1952, Ruan went to Germany to study in 1979, graduated from the Stone Setting and Copper engraving Class at Staatliche Zeichenakademie Hanau, Germany in 1987 and then earned A-Class certification at Würzburg Vocational School in 1988. Ruan has had a long career that started with his childhood passion for arts. He learned the basics of academic sculpting in Taiwan but started travelling to the far reaches of Africa and Europe during his youth and came back from a trip to Swaziland enlightened. He spent his time in Germany earning steady goldsmithing and jewelry-making skills and this decade overseas makes for a full resume. His professional skills lie in gold, jewelry, sculpting and architecture, and his works generally integrate elements of multiculturalism and his personal style, and have an ‘island’ feel to them.
