WANG Lan

Taiwanese　1922 - 2003

Wang Lan was born in Tianjin, China. He was a well-known writer and artist who used to published with the pseudonym Guo Zhi. Wang Lan was famous for his watercolor paintings featuring Chinese Opera characters. He had studied in Hebei Academy of Fine Arts; was the president of Chinese Watercolor Painting Association. Wang. Since the Marco Polo Bridge Incident (also known as Lugouqiao Incident) in 1937, he joined to the war to fight against Japanese for more than a year. With the background of wartimes, many of Wang’s writings reflected the sufferings during the difficult era. In 1945, Wang had founded the Red Blue publisher with his wife. In 1954, Wang moved to Taiwan due to the outbreak of another war, the Red Blue publisher was again established in their house in Taipei. Wang lived in the United States of America during his old age, and pass away in Los Angeles in 2003. He was a National Assembly of the Republic of China deputy when he was in Taiwan. In his later career, he had been a professor at University of Hawaii, and a professor of East Asian Literature and Art Department at Ohio State University.
