Catalogue Note:
Born in the Côte d'Azur area, Antoniucci Volti turned to be an artist acclaiming the body beauty of women in Mediterranean, especially in sculpture. He won a gold medal for two polychrome bas-reliefs in the art fair in Marseille at the age of seventeen only; then he entered the studio of Jean Boucher at the École Supérieur des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1936, he won the second place of Rome Prize.Harmonie, a work commissioned by Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris and Centre Pompidou, located in Place Theodol-Herzl, near by the Marais district in Paris. In 1967, Volti was appointed as vice president of the Société du Salon d'Automne in Paris; in 1981, the Volti Museum was established by the French government in south of France. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sino-French diplomatic relations in 2014, the solo touring exhibition of Volti started its exhibition tour to the five cities in China, including Beijing, Tianjin, Chengdu, Wuhan and Shanghai. This exhibition toured back to the Volti Museum in 2015 and also in Château de Maintenon in 2016 for respectively congraduated the centenary of his birth.

Cultivated in the Greek culture, Antoniucci Volti was applauded as a big sculpture master after Rodin, Bourdelle and Maillol. He was known as making drawings of models in charcoal before executing the sculpture works. His distinctive female figures were portrayed in a polished contour which highlight the magnificence of being. The majority of his nude works, as reclining or seated figures, were intensified the back line and created as a whole unity. We are able to recognize his works through certain features such like round eyes, elegant nose, short and curly bangs with simple bun. His harmonious and poetic style which demonstrates the joy of life is highly praised in the world. His works have been shown all over the world and collected by various important museums such as Musée des Beaux- Arts de la Ville de Paris, Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Musée de Nice, Château de Fontainebleau and Musée de Orleans.
