Catalogue Note:

In order to bring more peace and to promote the interflow between Taiwan and China, president of Kuo Min Tang Lien Chan meet with the president of China Hu Jintao, he brought two gifts for Hu, one is an oil painting of Taiwan landscapes by Yang San-Lang, the other one is"Taichi Series - Arch" by sculpture master Ju Ming. Politician's using of international sculpture master Ju Ming's popularity is definitely an expression of sincerity; however he also understands the theory of the harmony of Ying and Yang, and looking for the peace to come between Taiwan and China.

"Taichi Arch" was originally evolved from "Taichi Pushing Hands" The artist said: "There are distances between two objects in the' Pushing Hands' from the past, now, I connected those too hands, once they are connected, the flow of chi, and movements of muscles are connected and alive, become a single object, and transformed to an arch."

Far from being just a martial art, Taichi is unrestrained and graceful, the relationship of two boxers are like the Chinese Ying Yang, pushing hands between two formed Taichi. Ju Ming inspired by nature when he practiced Taichi, and gradually completed his world-famed Taichi Series, among the series, "Arch" is one of the liveliest piece of works.

During his creation that span 20 years for Taichi Series, Ju Ming used this simple and abstractive "Arch" as a period for the series. This piece is a bronze carving finished in 1990, and are obvious carving marks on the bronze surface. The gesture of characters are harmony and beautiful. The artist honestly inherited Chinese traditions; he also brings new forms of aesthetic into it.
