Chu Teh-chun began in the 50's his studies of abstract paintings with inspirations from French artist Nicolas de Sta. Early on, Chu took color concepts to conjure abstract expressions and injected his own thoughts, which gradually developed into his individual style. Inspired by works of Rembrandt, a Dutch artist in the seventeenth century, Chu Teh-chun takes "source of lighting" as his element of art work. Rembrandt loved to put a bright white or yellow on a thick black or brown background in order to make a contrasting, dramatic picture, and form a gloomy and depressed atmosphere. Chu Teh-chun commented: The light in Rembrandt's paintings makes the whole picture stronger, more powerful and more intact." However, Chu Teh-chun used his clever yet similar to Chinese "Flying White" concept brush stroke, white blocks and other color blocks, successfully distinguished himself from Rembrandt's gloom, and made his 70's paintings looks smooth and elegant like the clouds and waters in the nature.
466 was created during this period, it was painted in 1972, the colors are steady, brush strokes showed strong, and powerful, dynamics derived from interlaced lines, like a poetic symphony, while discovering the nature inside the picture, we may also sense the passion of the artist, and it's one of the best paintings in Chu Teh-chun's early creations.
