Catalogue Note:
Camille Hilaire was born in Metz, France. He was inspired by Albrecht Dürer in the early years. Hilaire entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1942. His work was heavily influenced by his instructor, the Cubist painter André Lhote. Hilaire’s work features fine flexibility, which was quite different from the earlier Cubist style. He had won the Prix de V enise in 1948, and the Prix de la Casa de Velazquez in 1950. Hilaire’s work had been collected by Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Museum of Strasbourg, Museum of Metz, Museum of Nancy, Museum of Dunkirk.
