Multicoloured Glaze - Wang Shiu-kung

Beginning from 1959, a multitude of glazes capable of withstanding high temperatures were concocted using feldspar as the main solvent, lead melt and zinc as supplementary solvents, as well as different proportions of iron and clay, together with oxidizing metals that were used for colouring purposes. Regardless of whether it had had been fired under the 1230°C oxidizing atmosphere flames or reducing atmosphere flames of more than 1280°C, it is the unpredictable effects that appears after the glaze have been melted under high temperatures. For a piece of coloured glaze work to achieve the rich and varied effects after firing, more than ten odd glazes, of different colour tones and characteristics, yet are non-repelling towards one another, must be applied almost simultaneously.

"The Ceramics Exhibition of Wang Shiu-kung" will be held in December 2004 at the China Academy of Art, which was previously known as the Hangzhou National College of Art. Participating alumni have already surpassed ten thousands in numbers. This is the first time that the ceramics exhibition is held as an invitational exhibition. In the past, outstanding alumni in the art circle were the main focus of display, whereas this time, outstanding alumni were invited to put up exhibits. In the coming future, Mainland China will be making extensive news coverage on the Chinese modern ceramics exhibition this time round.
