Catalogue Note:

Qu Guangci was born in Shanghai, in 1969. In 1989, he graduated from the Senior High School of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. In 1994, he graduated from the sculpture department of Central Academy of Fine Arts with a Bachelor degree. In 1997, he acquired his Master degree of sculpture from the Central Academy of Arts and entered its Authoring Research Room for Sculpture. Since 1999, he has been teaching in the sculpture workshop of the Fine Arts College in Shanghai Normal University and serves as the director of its Education Research Room as well as the dean's assistant of the Fine Arts College.

In 1993, his work "Mother" won "The Excellence Prize in National Remembrance of Yan'an Talks on Literature and Art by Chairman Mao-the 65th Anniversary Fine Art Exhibition" held by the National Art Museum of China. In 1994, his work "Streets" won the second prize of the 94 Graduation Show at Central Academy of Fine Arts and was collected in the Central Academy. His work "Wang Fu Jing" won the golden award in "Beijing District at the 8th National Art Exhibition" and was exhibited in the "Excellent Works of the 8th National Art Exhibition". In 1995, his work "Dusk" and "Posture" participated in the 95 Exchange Exhibition of International Young Artists held by the Museum of Contemporary Art. In 1997, his M.A. graduation work "Tibetan Sculptures" won the 2nd prize of "97 Central Academy of Fine Arts Graduation Show" and the 2nd prize of the "Japanese Matsuka Family Foundation". The work was collected in the Central Academy. In 1998, he held his first solo exhibition in Hallway Gallery at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1999, his work Road to Heaven was selected in "The 9th National Art Exhibition" held by Nation Art Museum of China and won the Bronze Medal. In 2000, he exhibited in "The 50th Anniversary of Shanghai Arts" and won the Bronze Medal. In 2001, Road to Heaven was exhibited in Le Salon d' Automne in Paris; "Dance Machine" was exhibited in Dusseldorf in Germany. In 2002, he participated in "Guangci and Xiang Jing-Mirror Image" sculpture exhibition in Shanghai. In 2003, he participated in "Sculptures by Xiang Jing and Guangci" in Macau. In 2004, he participated in "Witness-Sculptures by Xiang Jing and Guangci" in Shenzhen. In 2005, he exhibited in "A Century of Sculpture" at Shanghai Sculpture Space. In 2006, he exhibited in "Fiction@Love" at Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai.
