The aesthetic of the present lot lies partially in the magnificence of the jade itself. Jade snuff bottles were used for snuff at the beginning of Qing dynasty. There was one distinctive practice in the past, where only the pure core of a piece of jade stone would be utilized. However, subseuents developments induced craftsmen to incorporate the various colors on the stone into its design on the landscape and the moon as epitomizes by the present lot in attempts to enhance its contours or creates dimensionality.
