Of compressed form with an oval foot above the gently curved shoulders surmounted by a cylindrical neck, the narrow sides carved with mask heads, the interior finely painted with a scene of a Bodhidharma meditating beside a deer resting on all fours under the shade of a luscious tree, inscribed in regular script “Yuan shi kai da zong jian, minguo si nian [Executed by] Ma Shaoxuan ”, the reverse with a seated monk amidst a serene mountainous landscape. |
