A BRONZE TRIPOD CENSER WITH SKYWARD EARS
Qing Dynasty |
The whole body is made of solid and heavy, refined copper. This censer has a round mouth with a protruding rim that merges into a pair of skyward pointing ears. There is a beam neck with sloping shoulders which extend into a flat drum abdominal. Held up by three legs, the bottom reveals four characters in a square frame which, from right to left, read Made in the Xuande Period. Along the edge of the rim and ears, the plump contour meanders wonderfully. The full body emerges as a firm and steady display, bristling with confidence. |
