A BRONZE ROUND BELLY TRIPOD CENSER WITH RUYI EARS

Qing Dynasty

This bronze censer has a golden tint that glistens and is silky smooth. The piece has a round opening with flat rim, a narrowed neck and a deep round abdominal. A pair of Ruyi handles extend out from either side of the neck and abdominal. The abdominal narrows onto a round base supported by three small legs. On the bottom, the three-characters, The Xuande Period, are written in seal script and embossed horizontally in a square frame in the middle. The censer has a plumpness with contrasting Ruyi ears on either side and complementary distinct contours. This model is a rare piece due to the three-character inscriptions made in the Xuande Period.
