A BRONZE TRIPOD CENSER

Qing Dynasty

Made with solid bronze, this beautiful yet simple piece has a fine skin and dark pear coloration. It starts with a plate-like opening with raised rim, narrowed neck and full shoulders, followed by a flat drum abdominal and a round base supported by three small short legs. On the bottom, the four characters, Plaything of the Jade Hall, are written across two lines in seal script and are embossed in a square frame. This elegant and solid bronze censer exhibits the principal rules of harmony with its form and contours. It therefore possesses a fitting aesthetic essence for censers.
