TAITTINGER

In 1734, Jacques Fourneaux founded one of the oldest champagne wineries in the Champagne region of France. In 1932, the operation was purchased by Pierre Taittinger, who named the business after his last name, Taittinger. Although it changed hands one more time, it was eventually managed by the Taittinger family under the name, "Taittinger Champagne." And, up until this day, it remains one of the most renowned champagne brands from the Champagne region of France. While discussing this winery, what comes to mind is that it has only been using white grapes for its production since 1988. Additionally, only new fermentation barrels were used so that the champagne could absorb the rich flavors of the wood. This champagne is called "Blanc de Blancs," which is known for its woody aroma. The Taittinger winery located in Reims, the old capital of the province of Champagne, is where the Blanc de Blancs is produced. Also known as Comte de Champagne, this line of champagne is renowned for its royal stature. Furthermore, since 1966, the winery’s entire production used Pinot Noir grapes. In 1971, the Comte de Champagne Rosé, which takes about eight years to mature, was introduced. It also became a popular offering of the winery. In 1981, Taittinger was deemed the champagne of choice during the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
