Lafite 酒莊的歷史可追溯至西元1234 年，然而自1675 年Jacquesde Segur 公爵將酒莊納入西谷家族版圖，Lafite 酒莊才真正開始有著飛躍性的發展。1855 年，Lafite 成為波爾多葡萄酒分級制度中Grand Cru Classé 之首，葡萄園佔地100 多公頃。每年葡萄採收後，約有1/3 的葡萄用來打造一軍同名旗艦酒款，其餘則用來釀製二軍酒Carruades de Lafite 與三軍酒Pauillac de Château Lafite。ChâteauLafite Rothschild 的葡萄園土壤黏土質較少，以顆粒粗大的礫石為主，排水性極佳，對葡萄藤來說莫過於是最好的生長環境，平均樹齡45 年以上，打造出的酒質結構堅實、酒質內斂，帶著一股油然而生的高貴質感，在《稀世珍釀》一書中被陳新民先生形容為「極端優雅」，同時神祕地令人難以捉摸。

This is a denser version of the 1990 that stylistically reminds me of what the young 1959 probably tasted like. Still backward with a deep ruby/plum color revealing only a touch of lightening at the edge, the wine offers up an extraordinary nose of caramelized herbs, smoke, cedar, pen ink, black currants, and earth. The gorgeous aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, plump, rich, fleshy wine with low acidity.
