Guanzhong recalled the fairness of his homeland in Neturning to Homeland? the theme that he always wanted to paint is his homeland, Jiangnan. Wu Guanzhong's hometown is in Yixing, Jiangsu, it'S on the west side of the land of waters, Taihu, and his house in Yixing is the typical three-way building. According to the artist, all he saw when he was young was houses with white walls and black roofs, companied by bridges and creeks, very elegant. Wu Guanzhong painted many Jiangnan landscapes, and he made them look very elegant and poetic.

Wu Guanzhong is world famed for his oil paintings, however, he returned to discover water and ink in his later years, he sometimes use both materials in the same painting, in order to achieve the beauty in his eyes. Some say water and ink are more suitable to represent the warm and beauty of Jiangnan, however Wu Guanzhong is the water and ink painter of the new generation, and he brought water and ink into western paintings, and achieved a revolutionary result in to Chinese traditional paintings.

In recent years, each time Wu Guanzhong returns to his homeland, he discovers old buildings took apart, and feels helpless about it. Painting his homeland gives him the most complicated feelings. Wu Guanzhong traveled from north to south in China, he collected the seeds of beauty everywhere, and he had planted a wonderful homeland in his paintings.
