A BRONZE CYLINDRICAL CENSER WITH ARABIC SCRIPT

Made with golden bronze, the censer has a solid feel in hand. The purplish-red body shows patches of peeling. This piece consists of a flat and round mouth and a cylindrical belly with three sets of begonia blessings on the walls. The pattern of blessings are filled with precious adornments and an embossed Arabic script. The flat bottom is held up by three short Drifting Cloud legs. On the bottom, embossed are two lines of four-character Seal Script read Made in the Zhengde Period in Chinese. The overall style of the censer is modest and simple. With the use of Arabic script for decoration, the piece deepens the reminiscence of ancient times. |
