A BRONZE TRIPOD CENSER WITH TWO EARS
Qing Dynasty |
Dense and solid bronze, the censer has a pear colored facade with a hint of red amidst the brown. It is stately and strong piece consisting of a round opening with a flat rim, narrowed neck and shoulders that drop into a flat round abdominal. Below the abdominal, it gradually narrows onto a round base with three small legs. On the bottom, the four characters, Made in the Xuande Period, are written in seal script and are embossed horizontally in a square frame. A pair of square-ish Ban handles extend out from either side of the censer. Along with the plump legs and drooped abdominal, these elements give the bronze censer a heavy and solid look that leaves viewers in awe. |
